4

Sunday night, Zeb celebrated his birthday with a train-shaped cake with four candles and two scoops of hemp ice cream surrounded by a few friends singing "Happy Birthday" in a cabin at Mt. Baker. When people wished him "Happy Birthday" on Monday--his actual birthday--he asked, "Is it *still* my birthday?" "Today is your actual birthday. We celebrated yesterday with our friends. You'll celebrate tomorrow with your daddy and we'll celebrate again on Friday with your friends at preschool. We're going to celebrate all week!" Tuesday he woke up, "Is it my birthday again today?" :)

From my perspective, serving a cake that Hillary baked at the base of Mt. Baker was waaaaaaaaaaaaay less stressful than the party we threw last year.

Note to self: remember to read your blog next year when you're planning Zeb's 5th birthday party.

Ha. I'm sure everything will be totally different next year. He'll have more friends he'll want to invite. Who knows where we'll be living. Who knows what life will be like. Huh. That's funny to think about. Life in a year...well, if it's anything like the last 9 months you won't recognize either one of us!

The most amazing thing about this party was that I forgot my camera!! I have zero pictures from the weekend. I have been carrying my camera less and less. It's a bummer for the blog but it's great for being in the moment. Here's a picture from Zeb's first year.

Happy Birthday, Zeb! I am so proud of how you are expressing your emotions. I love all of the characters that you become throughout a day. I enjoy the characters that I get to play and the scenes that you set up for us. I wonder if someday you'll be a movie director. tee-hee. I love the person you are and I love watching you grow and learn. I love watching you dance and race and hug and push and yell and draw and count and recognize letters. You are such a good, sweet, smart, interesting, interested, creative, wonderful person. I love you. I look forward to celebrating your birthday again tomorrow.

I'm late on getting photos published from Thanksgiving, Solstice, Christmas, and beyond. Here is mom's set from Christmas morning.
