Happy Mother's Day to me!

I've added a few more photos to the Spring 2009 set on flickr.

Yesterday, Zeb and I drove to Tacoma. My high school friend's pottery club was having a sale and we wanted to check it out. Zeb picked out a teapot and cups that Jill (my friend) made. It's so cool to think that I've known the hands that crafted the teapot for over 30 years--we met when we were 6.

Then we headed to Point Defiance. I've never been there! I wanted to take Zeb to the zoo, it was the last weekend of the Beluga Whales, but the parking was beyond crazy. People were parked all over the place--I thought some of the cars were going to tip over. We went to the beach instead and put Zeb's skuut (wooden balance bike) together. Then we sat near the water for a while, met some other young boys who showed Zeb how do to wheelies on the skuut and how to balance on logs, had a snack, watched and waved to lots of boats, found ants crawling all over the logs, then headed back to Seattle.

After Zeb woke from an afternoon nap, we went to Zoe, Xavier, and Nathan's. After hanging out and playing for a while, Zoe and I performed an empowering and healing ritual. Zeb and I came home happy and silly.

Today, Zeb and I took Iko to the dog park. It was Iko's first ride in the audi. He sat in the front seat--in front of Zeb, who was thrilled to see Iko so excited and out of his element. We sang all the way to the dog park, "If you're happy and you know it wag your tail....if you're happy and you know it bark and howl....if you're happy and you know it stick your head out the window and let your tongue wag in the wind...."

I gave Zeb the choice of heading to Sears or Home Depot to look for either a new lawnmower or a weed whacker. He said to go to Sears and find a weed whacker--which is exactly what we did. He fell asleep on the way home, which was convenient because we needed to head north to visit with friends and check out the piano they are trying to give away.

He woke up right when we were arriving at our friend's house. We stayed there for a while, giving the 3 year old boys plenty of time to play with cars and trucks. The piano is really cool. It's from the 1950s and the keys are actual ivory--but peeling off so would need to be rekeyed (I found a kit online--would replace them with plastic and be able to glue them on). I can't believe that after all of these years (20), I can still play the opening bars of the last Mozart concerto that I performed. After that, I played several scales...again, the finger memory is astounding. It *felt* so good. I can't wait to have a piano at my disposal whenever I want to play. Hopefully, I'll be looking at another one in a couple weeks. The nice thing about the one that I saw today is that (as far as pianos go) it isn't overly heavy. So, while I'd pay for a kit to rekey it and would need to tune it and perhaps update some of the pads, the moving costs would probably be less than the other one I hope to look at next. Mmmm. Piano. I can't wait.

Now, we're watching WALL-E for the 300th time...and I still love this show. And I'm so happy to be the mother of such an awesome kid.
