Last weekend, we put Zeb in the jogging stroller, food in the cooler, Iko on a leash, and shoes on our feet and walked the backroads to Carkeek Park. We left around 10 a.m. arrived around 11. Explored the beach, ate our picnic lunch, played in the playground, and hit trees with sticks by the stream. We were home by 2 and all asleep by 2:30. More photos of our trip have been added to the Spring 2008 set.

Well, hello there, dear reader! Long time no see. How ya been? We're doing pretty swell.

A couple weeks ago our neighbors invited us on an impromptu "un-camping trip." The idea being: get the kids in the car around nap time, drive 3 hours to a campground, hang out, roast marshmallows, eat dinner, play in the river, put the kids in the cars around bed time and drive home. It turned into one of the most fun Saturdays we've had in a while. I even remembered to take my camera (more photos of un-camping trip). Banner day.

Spring has almost sprung, but I've been bouncing for weeks. Most of the lilies I bought at the garden show are peaking through the ground, the bulbs I planted a couple years ago have divided and are filling in their areas nicely, and I've been planting seeds this week: grass, chives, columbine, and a wildflower mix meant to attract birds and butterflies. I've moved last year's bamboo and herbs into larger pots - making way for more seeds (carrots, tomatoes, nasturtium, lettuce).

Plant sales are next weekend and I'll buy several veggie starts, so this week I need to finish rounding up planters (another trip to ReStore and 1/2 price pots) and buy more soil.

Zeb helped me overseed the yard with grass - he's a very good planter. I was able to leave him with the bag of seed while I finished up some other gardening chores like cleaning up the ferns.

We planted an apple seed a few weeks ago and to celebrate Arbor Day (it's today - Happy Arbor Day!), when Zeb wakes from his nap, we'll transplant it to a larger pot outside - so it can hang with the other herbs and veggies. It has been fun to look at it every couple days and count the number of leaves. As of yesterday, Zeb counted 7.

Spring! Spring! Sprung!
