Four blocks from our house is a playground with a sandbox, toys to climb on, swings, and in summer, a wading pool. Today was the perfect day for Z to show off his awesome abs. heh. More photos of Z at the park are available.

back from hiatus

Since last I wrote....
  • J's birth mother and sister visited for a most awesome weekend - we celebrated the solstice at the Fremont Fest. Photos from Fremont Fest.
  • We traveled to Spokane, WA where J's team competed with 23,000 others in a 3-on-3 tournament. It was a basketball festival! All the streets filled with pedestrians, basketball courts, and food vendors. We hung out with my friend from high school and her family, plus the families of J's team members. Photos from HoopFest.
  • We spent the 4th of July playing hop scotch on our deck.
  • I worked my 2nd master gardener clinic shift at the zoo.
  • Iko has gotten out of the yard twice. The second time without his collar so we thought he was gone for good. I found him sleeping in a neighbor's yard. They said he showed up at 10 p.m. the previous night...I found him around 9 a.m. He's having the hardest time adjusting to life without Reba.
  • I saw the first seven innings of the Red Sox v Mariners game that the Mariners finally won in the 10th (or 11th?). I had an awesome time - once I finally got there and got over feeling guilty for "slacking" on a work day. (isn't *every* day a work day for a momma?)
  • Many emotional shifts going on that I can't describe. It's confusing.
  • Oh ya, then there's Z. wow! I am amazed - as any mother is, right? I can ask him almost any question and he'll nod yes or no. I'll say "daddy's going to work" and he'll wave "bye bye" and sign "work." J bought Z a remote control tractor and Z is driving it all over the place! He's grown taller. Gosh...in the last month, there are too many new things to document. He's funny and smart. He traveled really well to Spokane and back. He's just such a cool kid. He can eat with silverware, although when he's really hungry he prefers his hands. He can draw with either hand. Eliminating gluten (along with everything else), consistently using probiotics and fish oils, and switching to a new skin moisturizer seem to have made the difference with his skin - it's almost totally clear (what a relief!). We found out the hard way that he's allergic to shellfish (he had diarrhea for 2 days). I think he's allergic to watermelon and maybe cantaloupe - his hands itch and his upper lip turns red.
So, everything is good. The cranial sacral sessions have caused a shift that I'm still assimilating, it's good. I just need to sit with it.

Summer in Seattle is gorgeous. A local nursery had a 2-for-1 sale...thank goodness I only had an hour to shop. The yard is looking so much better. Still a lot of work to do, but it's slowly coming together - I'm learning to have patience with the growing things.

I bought several plants to attract hummingbirds and it's brought me so much joy to see the birds around our house! This morning, I had a visitor to our deck at 6:30 and again at 9. I sat on the floor watching him or her drink from several of the blooms, perch for a moment, drink from several more...it was an extended stay. Such a gorgeous creature. I can't wait to add more plants, a bath and a feeder to the deck to lure in more birds for a closer look.

And like that...another day has slipped away.
